Our history
Safe Haven's founder and president, John Sagoe, had the vision for Safe Haven one night in 1993 when he had a dream in which he found himself in a playground in Ghana, surrounded by many happy children. The following night he had the same dream again, which led him to get involved with poor and underprivileged children. Initially, John started visiting and supporting children's homes, bringing them food and supporting them financially every time he travelled to Ghana.
Over the years, the vision evolved and matured into a strategy to change lives in Ghana, especially the lives of those who cannot fend for themselves, the children. After much planning and strategy, the Safe Haven Foster Home in Adenta, Ghana, opened its doors and welcomed 15 children aged 2 to 12 years, randomly selected from the government orphanage. These children were facing various social challenges such as abuse, neglect and poor health.
